My approach has developed over time, reflecting my commitment to offering high levels of client care and professionalism.
Based on mutual respect and collaboration with my clients, I have extensive experience of providing therapy for a wide range of problems.
I blend compassionate enquiry with mindful practices and creative techniques to help reframe any self-limiting beliefs. Being accepting, curious and empathic are cornerstones of my approach.
My initial diploma for working with adults is integrative, incorporating humanistic therapies which are client-led, focusing on healing and the achievement of potential through talking in a supportive and non-judgemental space.
In addition to my diploma for working with children and young people I have undertaken professional training in understanding the mind / body processes underlying anxiety, OCD and panic attacks, as well as attachment theory and narrative therapy techniques for helping children and young people re-author their life stories.
Working with young people naturally led into working with wider networks, hence becoming a couple’s therapist and currently I’m undertaking a Masters in Systemic Family therapy. As with humanistic approaches, the systemic viewpoint is non-blaming and focuses on building strengths. Rather than viewing problems in isolation, it focuses on the broader context of patterns of relating within couples, families and social networks.
As my practice grew, I recognised a need to provide effective and safe trauma-focused support for clients whose distressing past experiences impact current relationships. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Children’s Accelerated Trauma Techniques are two such approaches I am qualified in which have the benefit of easing the emotional burden of traumatic experiences without the need for intensive talking.
I feel honoured to work as a counsellor and witness the transformation and healing it can bring for many different people. I have also experienced the benefit of counselling and regard myself as ever evolving as a person and therapist. If you are interested in seeking counselling with me, I’m warm and empathetic and I would be honoured to work with you.
